Zero data. Zero tracking. Zero servers.

Summary

Float Translate does NOT collect, store, transmit, or sell any user data. We don't operate any servers. We use no analytics. We don't ask you to sign in.

How translation works

• When available, translation runs entirely on your device using Chrome's built-in AI models (Translator API). Your text never leaves your browser.
• When on-device translation is unavailable (older browser, or unsupported language pair), your browser sends the text directly to public translation services:
  • Google Translate (translate.googleapis.com)
  • MyMemory (api.mymemory.translated.net)
  The connection uses your own IP address, without passing through any server we control — quite simply because we operate no servers.

Data stored locally on your device

The extension uses Chrome's local storage (chrome.storage.local) to save:

• Your settings (selected languages, light/dark theme, live/manual mode)
• Clipboard history (last 20 saved translations)
• Recently used emojis

All this data stays on your device. You can clear it anytime via: Chrome Settings → Extensions → Float Translate → Clear site data.

What we don't use

• Any analytics (Google Analytics, Mixpanel, Sentry, etc.)
• Cookies or third-party scripts
• User accounts or authentication
• Advertising networks
• Selling or sharing data with any third party

Required permissions

• activeTab: To inject the widget only into the tab you're currently viewing, on user gesture.
• scripting: To dynamically load the widget code.
• storage: To save your preferences locally.
• clipboardWrite: For the copy button inside the widget.
• host_permissions (translate.googleapis.com, api.mymemory.translated.net): For fallback translation when on-device is unavailable.

Changes to this policy

Any changes will be published on this page with the updated date. Substantive changes will be noted on the extension's Chrome Web Store page.
